Seeking entrepreneurial and commercially minded business development manager to join an exciting and growing international media company. Must have between 4 to 5 years’ experience in business development and/or sales experience in a professional services firm (like PR, advertising or consulting).

LID Business Media is a part of LID, an international group with offices in London, New York, San Francisco, Shanghai, Madrid, Barcelona, Mexico, Monterrey, Bogota and Buenos Aires, which specialises in corporate communications and publishing. It works with organisations, academic institutions and best-selling authors to develop and publish publications (mainly in book and journal form-print and digital), to enable them to communicate their ideas and brands to a global audience and to enhance their reputation. Besides publications, LID Publishing operates a speakers’ bureau (selling speakers to organisations) and online courses. In all of this, LID Publishing focuses its products and services on the business world. Previous publishing experience is not essential, but business development/ sales experience is. We are looking for an individual who is truly entrepreneurial, business-minded and smart. Experience in related fields such as PR, sponsorship generation, business and client development for a professional service firm or branding agency, corporate communications, corporate/customer publishing, etc. would be beneficial.

Business Development Manager’s main activities:

  • Search for, meet and pitch to high-level directors and executive managers, with a view to identifying their organisation’s communications and PR needs, and creating and offering viable solutions.
  • Seek sponsors for publications and other LID products.
  • Make sales of existing LID publications/products by tailoring them according to the client’s needs.
  • Make sales of speakers to organisations and conference organisers.
  • Manage and collaborate with other commercial staff within the company.
  • Collaborate with sales and management staff from other LID offices (outside of China).
  • Network extensively and build relationships at a senior level in order to succeed in this role.
  • Manage and collaborate with existing third-party partners.


Business Development Manager’s profile:



  • Excellent personal skills with a strong entrepreneurial spirit.
  • Commercial sales experience (ideally a concept-sell, business development, professional services and/or sponsorship background).
  • Strong academic background educated to degree level.
  • Creative thinker, fast and smart.
  • Hunger to earn commissions.
  • Interest in and follower of Chinese and global business/corporate affairs.
  • Potential to develop into the General Manager role for LID Business Media.


Business Development Manager’s qualities and skills:



  • Self-motivated and able to work independently and remotely.
  • Superb communication skills in spoken and written Mandarin and English.
  • Confident and convincing presenter.
  • A demonstrable and sustainable high level of energy and enthusiasm.
  • Clear entrepreneurial flair and passion for doing business.
  • Able to work and perform in busy and pressured environment.
  • Able to motivate others and foster a team spirit.
  • Good organisational skills and excellent research abilities.
  • Good skills with Word, Outlook, Powerpoint and Excel.


The Business Development Manager will report directly to and work closely with the Business Development Director, Niki Mullin. The main geographical focus of the Business Development Manager will be China.

The remuneration will consist of an annual salary of RMB 250,000 + sales commissions + company bonus + social welfare/insurance + share options in LID Business Media.
